I took a workshop this month with Lisa Daria Kennedy. I learned so much. I really admire her work, her loose style, her fabulous use of color. She paints daily and showed us how she approaches painting.  She works in acrylics and her paintings look like oils. For now I am sticking with oils and going to see if I can get the hang of it - I am just becoming addicted to the buttery quality of the paint and the beautiful subtle tones you get working with earth tones and primary colors. We'll see what happens. I did an underpainting with the painting below and feel this painting moved forward a bit in finding the contrasts in light and a more developed use of color.

I took a really great painting and collage workshop this past weekend at PAFA with Ken Kewley and Stuart Shils - the focus on seeing - we did collage work in Ken's class focusing on planes of color. It was great being a student again. I soaked it up.

I did these when I got home - it is a great exercise in seeing and not thinking - and of course it is always fun to play with colors.

We worked from the figure, building these 3d figures all in square planes of painted cardboard. Later on we painted from the live model and our cardboard models. The end results were exciting. It was great working from a live model which I haven't done in a really long time. And wonderful to use a process I wouldn't ordinarily use.
